Soloist – Kalev Kuljus
Conductor – Risto Joost
Kalev Kuljus
Each occurrence of the concert soloist Kalev Kuljus on domestic stages is of special value. We must agree with Toomas Velmet: “The only ones in Estonian musical history, who have reached this far – a concert master at the world’s top symphony orchestra, were once Ludvig Juht and Hubert Aumere. Kalev Kuljus plays the solo oboe with the Hamburg NDR orchestra and he has sat on the solo oboe players chair also with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (!). To reach this far, you must study in three universities (Tallinn, Lyon, Karlsruhe), further your studies with at least seven of the world’s top professors and receive a first prize at a minimum of four international competitions.”
The concert belongs to a series initiated by conductor Risto Joost and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, where a composers first and last symphony are being performed alongside. The evening dedicated to Mozart ends with the popular Jupiter Symphony (“The best symphonic work of all composed before the French Revolution.” – Sir George Grove) and its dashing finale (“A boundless life energy expressed with remarkable lightness.” – Hermann Abert).
