Music theatre is not only for old fogies who shed a tear on a velvet seat in sublime bliss while listening to Wagner or Verdi. On the contrary – music theatre is by its nature a furious opposition to the ascendancy of verbal forms on television and even in the theatre. This is clearest when there are young people on stage.
Hanna-Liina Võsa founded a musical school bearing her own name in 2016. Since then a bold change has taken place in Estonia’s musical landscape. Now two years later, Võsa gathers together 80 young and a little bit older pupil from her school and they mount the Birgitta Festival stage alongside their teachers and Estonian stars.
The Muusikalicool youth gala will be born in cooperation between the Birgitta Festival and the school focusing on musicals takes us into the wonders and everyday life of learning music. Young charm, lots of will and aspiration are on stage in vast quantities. Life is harsh but beautiful. Well-known and even better-known songs by authors from around the world will be heard.
