Tauno Aints New work
It is natural that two such high level neighbouring orchestras would once again want to meet up and make music together. Both orchestras also collaborated on Arvo Pärt’s record “Adam’s Lament”, which won conductor Tõnu Kaljuste a Grammy in 2014. This time they come with a new repertory, specifically written to be performed by two orchestras. The programme centers on “Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta” – the best known work of one of the 20th century’s most prominent composers Béla Bartók. The piece has been featured in several movies, including “Being John Malkovich”.
The concert’s conductor, Sinfonietta Rīga’s Artistic Director Normunds Šnē: „I am interested in bringing out the different tonal styles of both orchestras, at the same time maintaining a certain sense of competition and excitement between the companies”.
